Chick Embrology
On May 1st we put the eggs in the incubator. We waited and waited and finally on day 23 they hatched! This was actually two days later than expected and we were getting a little worried. We are so happy that we have four adorable chicks in our classroom.
Ethan and Neha are our bloggers this month. :)

Plant Life Cycle
In the science lab we are experimenting what will happen to these seeds. We wanted to know if they would sprout without any soil. Guess what? They did!

Plant Tic_Tac-Toe
Each student in the classroom got to predict which three plants in a row will sprout first. We made our predictions, watered and waited to see which three in a row would sprout first. The winning row was peas, corn and beets!

These are some of the students that are planting their own plants. Each student had chance to grow peas or green beans.

These are some of the plants after they were planted. Each plant is next to the window so the plants will get enough sunlight.

Our class also did an experiment to see which plants would survive, without
the things that they need to live such as; sunlight, air, water and soil. One had no air, one had no water, one with soda, one with sand, and one with no light! We also used a control that had everything it needed.
Would you believe that all the plants grew? Even the one without water! Mrs. Oddo our science teacher told us that we must have had a lot of water in the soil we used because normally the seed coat will not crack and the seed will not be able to germinate without water. Even the plant we gave soda grew. However, it was smelly and it grew very slowly. The one with no light grew but it was WHITE! Plants use sunlight to make food through photosynthesis. Plants use chlorophyll to absorb energy through light during this process. It is the chlorophyll that gives plants their green color!

Magnets and Electricity
In science lab we learned about how electricity works. We learned that there are two types of electricity. The two types are static and current electricity. We learned how to make a light bulb light with only using a wire and a battery! Then we learned how to do the same thing but using a switch to open and close the circuit. We also learned that when you rub bunny fur and a balloon it makes lots of static electricity. We also learned about Morse Code using current electricity.
Also, in science lab we learned about magnetism. Did you know that there is a North Pole and the South Pole on magnets? We found out that when the North Pole and the North Pole are together (same with South Pole and South Pole) they repel and if the South Pole and the North Pole are together they attract.
Think about this:

Did you know that the Earth is one giant magnet?

Shark Debate
We read two articles about sharks in class. Here is some information from both of the articles.
DANGEROUS:
1. Hammerhead, tiger sharks and mako sharks have razor-sharp teeth.
2. The great white shark can rip through wood and even metal.
3. Sharks are the most feared animal.
NOT DANGEROUS:
1. More people die of bee stings each year than shark attacks.
2. There are only 100 shark attacks each year worldwide and of those only about 10 people die.
3. Sharks do not like the taste of people.
What do you think?
Are sharks very dangerous to people? Or not? Support your opinion with evidence!
